Prof. Nigishi Hotta
Director General Emeritus, Chubu Rosai Hospital, Nagoya, Japan
Reason: In recognition of his outstanding contributions to our understanding of the role of polyol pathway in diabetic complications and demonstration of the benefit of aldose reductase inhibitor in treatment of diabetic neuropathy.
He established network and platform to advancing diabetes research, care and education in Asia with great leadership in many international organizations, especially brought up the JDI to be internationally recognized as the founded Editor-in Chief.
Previous Awards: Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International “Mary Jane Kugel Award”, Japan Diabetes Society “Hagedon Award” and many other awards  
The Xiaoren Pan Distinguished Research Award for Epidemiology of Diabetes in Asia

Prof. Weiping Jia 
President, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Affiliated Sixth People’s Hospital, Shanghai, China
Reason: In recognition of her outstanding scientific achievements in epidemiology through large scale cohort studies to discover genetic susceptibility for type 2 diabetes in Chinese.
She is also recognized for establishing new diagnostic standards for diabetes and abdominal obesity for Chinese.
Previous Awards: National Science and Technology Awards on "Pathogenesis, clinical diagnosis and treatment of type 2 diabetes", National Ministry of Health "Wu Jieping-Paul Jessen Medical & Pharmaceutical Award", Chinese Group of Insulin Secretion "Servier-Insulin Secretion Achievement Award" and National Outstanding Scientist and many other awards.

Dr. Daisuke Yabe
Program-Specific Associate Professor, Kyoto University; Deputy Director General, Kansai Electric Power Medical Research Institute; Visiting Associate Professor, Kobe University, Japan
Reason: In recognition of his outstanding scientific achievements in diabetes-related research, which extended from basic science to clinical practice to bring benefits to patients, especially focusing on incretin biology and advanced diabetes treatment.
Previous Awards: Japan Association for Diabetes Education and Care “William Cullen Award”, Japan Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism “Albireo Award”, and many other awards
